Alta Staff Awarded and Recognized


Alta staff is dedicated to PB+IS implementation. During the 2017-2018 school year Alta earned recognition from the Fresno County Office of Education for being a Platinum Level Model School. Platinum status is achieved when a school has successfully implemented PB+IS for five years, has achieved Gold status two years in a row, and demonstrates exemplary implementation of PB+IS. Platinum implementation is evidence that the staff honor positive behavior expectations schoolwide and have supports in place to monitor effectiveness of the program and provide interventions for students as needed. The staff works diligently each day to recognize students following expectations and reach out and support students in need of re-teaching or reflecting. We are proud to be a Champion Model School and are positive our students will continue to SOAR through the coming years!


SOARing High Five!

Alta staff members participate in recognizing colleagues for their efforts and support of PBIS on our campus by giving them a "SOARing High Five". "SOARing High Five" tickets are selected during our weekly staff meetings.

PBIS Goals


Each year the Alta PBIS team meet to write behavior and academic goals based on most current discipline data. This year the team set a behavior goal, an academic goal and an attendance goal. Alta staff believe that missing school is missing out. We value our students and encourage them to attend school regularly.


Behavior Goal: Alta School will decrease the number of students receiving  discipline referrals for defiant, disrespectful behavior from 20.75% to 19.0%  by the end of trimester 1, and maintain 19.0% for the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year.


Academic goal grades TK-2: Alta School will increase the number of students making progress toward proficiency as measured on the BPST in grades TK-2, by a minimum of 2% by June 2017. The goal is stated specific to the grade level and the current performance data. In grades TK and K the goal is to increase from 38 % to 40%. In 1st grade the goal is to increase from 25% to 30%, and in 2nd grade the goal is to increase from 25% to 30%.

Academic Goal Grades 2-5: Alta School will increase the number of students performing proficient or advanced on the Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) in grade 2-5 by 12% by the end of the 2016-2017 school year.

Academic goal-school wide attendance: Alta School will increase school wide attendance from 97% in 2015-2016 to 97.3% by the school year.

PBIS Behavior Data
Alta's PBIS team monitors behavior data from student referrals which are entered in an online database called SWIS. During regular monthly meetings the team discusses the SWIS data and responds with re-teaching, extra supervision or support as needed. Once the team reviews the data and plans support. Information is shared with staff during our weekly staff meetings at "PBIS update" time on the agenda.
There are several ways to extract behavior data from SWIS. Referrals by location, referrals by time and referrals by problem behavior are important to the PBIS team at Alta.
