Alta Elementary Gold Award

At Alta Elementary, we believe that a safe, respectful, and supportive school environment is the foundation for student success. That’s why we implement a school-wide PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) system. PBIS helps us create a consistent and positive school culture where all students know what is expected of them and are recognized for making positive choices.

We are proud to share that in the 2024–2025 school year, Alta Elementary was honored by KCUSD with the PBIS Gold Award—a recognition of our commitment to fostering positive behavior, implementing effective interventions, and meeting high standards in student support.

Together, we help every Eagle SOAR by being Safe, taking Ownership, having a positive Attitude, and showing Respect!

🔹 What is PBIS?

🔹 Teaching Our Expectations

PBIS lessons are taught at the beginning of the year, after breaks, and as needed. PBIS is implemented school wide:

  • ALL staff and students are part of PBIS

  • Committee meets once a month to collaborate and plan school-wide events and to analyze behavior trends in order to plan next steps

  • Student Ambassadors are part of our team and help with presenting student friendly lessons to students and behind the scenes with events

  • Morning announcements are made daily to highlight expectations

  • Student modeling

🔹 When Students Need Support

When behavior expectations are not met:

  • We reteach expectations kindly and consistently

  • Parents may be contacted for teamwork

  • Support plans are developed for repeated behavior concerns

  • NEST or needs extra support PBIS refreshers may be offered by administration and school clinician
