Alta Elementary has implemented Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions, or PB+IS. Our PB+IS school-wide behavior expectations focus on establishing and maintaining a climate and culture where all parents, students and staff feel safe.  It is our vision to establish and maintain behavioral supports and a positive social culture needed for all students in our school to achieve social, emotional and academic success. Our parents, families and school community support the school-wide expectations for behavior and appreciate the efforts of our PB+IS implementation.

Alta students are held to high standards for behavior and are expected to be SAFE, take OWNERSHIP, have a great ATTITUDE, and be RESPECTFUL or SOAR. Students actively participate in activities teaching them how to SOAR throughout our campus. Students are recognized for positive behavior choices and re-taught behavior expectations as needed. Staff and students work together to maintain a safe school environment where learning takes place.

PB+IS Goals

Each year the Alta PB+IS team meets to write behavior and academic goals based on most current discipline data. This year the team set a behavior goal, an academic goal and an attendance goal. Alta staff believe that missing school is missing out. We value our students and encourage them to attend school regularly.

Behavioral Goal
By the end of 2019-2020 school year, the total rate of referral incidents at Alta School will decrease from 1.89 ODRs per school day to 1.5 ODRs per school day, schoolwide when compared to 2018-2019 referral data.

Academic Goal:
By the end of Trimester 2 of the 2020-2021 school year, the percentage of proficient 2nd -5th grade students on the SRI will increase by 15% when compared to Sept 2020 scores (currently 18% Proficient or above).

All Alta students and staff participate in SOAR Day which is held at the beginning of school each year. SOAR Day provides an opportunity to learn and experience behavior expectations campus wide.PB+IS team members teach lessons, model behavior expectations include students in activities with examples and non-examples of expected behavior. Stations are set up around the campus and students rotate through the interactive lessons.Once students have completed the training they receive a "PB+IS SOAR Card" which acknowledges their participation in learning behavior expectations.

PB+IS Boost Week
Alta students and staff participate in PB+IS Boost week activities which are held during Trimester 2 each year. Boost week provides an opportunity for students to be reminded of our school-wide behavior expectations. Teachers, staff, PB+IS team members and our bus drivers teach expectations using presentations, video clips and pictures of our students following expectations
